Barnill Brothers is a Belgian duo formed by Barnabé Deliens and Ruben Hillewaere.
Both are songwriters and math teachers, who see songwriting as an escape from rational thinking, a way to reconnect with the senses. Passionate about songwriting and vocal harmonies, they developed their co-writing style inspired by masters such as Lennon-McCartney, Paul Simon, and Bob Dylan.
In 2020, they released their debut album A Better Place, produced by Douglas Firs, and traveled across Belgium by bike to perform in local cultural venues, charming audiences and the press with their deep connection and charisma.
With their new album Shelter, the Barnill Brothers expand their sonic palette, adding ‘indie’ influences to their foundation of American folk, drawing inspiration from artists like Andy Shauf, Villagers, Big Thief, and Elliott Smith.
Shelter unfolds in dark and melancholic tones, illuminated by hints of hope and love. Against the heavy backdrop of recent years — post-Covid, wars, climate crisis — the themes reflect our fragility in a world that is often cruel, sometimes absurd. Yet at the heart of this darkness lies a desire to savor the richness of small moments with the ones we love.
Produced in collaboration with Mathias Bressan and Emmanuel Coenen (Alaska Gold Rush, Les Hommes Boîtes, Kings of Edelgran), this new album was recorded in the warm atmosphere of the attic at MusikFabriken in Nivelles.
Let me have your faith to believe in fairy tales
Believe it’s not too late to make this world
A better place
